Back in 1993 I was introduced to the model by someone from the telecom industry, asking me to join a company that was offering mobile phones (These have only just entered the the market). I did have a meeting and seen the presentation, but...... decided to skip it. I simply did not see my self talking to people and pursue them only to make some commission. I was very shy at the time too, so any type of communication with strangers was for me a no go area. But, my thoughts were filled with the idea, so I decided to look in to it more. few weeks later, I was approached by another company, this time it was the first MLM company in the world. The people who came to see me were very professional, but the core of the business was once more, sale of products. Mainly household and cosmetics.Once more I gave it a pass. Once more, the marketing plan and structure of the system was very appealing, however, just the thought of me going out and talking to people, especially family and friends was one overpowering fear that stopped me from doing anything. Nevertheless, I went on and decided to search for MLM business, hoping to find the right product that I will want to promote to others. The thought of the power of the marketing system and the shear opportunity of creating an international business out of it motivated me to research. I looked in to over 3200 companies that were on the market at the time. Most offering good money making opportunities, great products, but...... there was this apprehension ....... there was this terrible barrier that I could not pass. It was the FEAR! So strong that it was paralyzing me completely.
In the spring of 1994 I finally gave in to this "american dream" company. A friend from Poland came over and explained to me the power of network marketing, and what was even more important to me, she introduced me to the power of personal development. She left me some books to read, which was the catch for me. I loved reading! So after she left, I called the number down south in Avon and spoke to Derek, who has driven up to Manchester the same afternoon. I signed up! I became a business owner! Wow! Not to mention the fact, that Derek after just leaving my office with signed declaration has driven his car in to a curb and damaged it, having to be taken home on the back of the recovery vehicle. What struck me about Derek was that he has come from a corporate background. That meant that he was already making a good living from his job, yet the question was really bothering me as to why would he leave his well paid job to do something like this? The answer came very quickly. His time was not his, but his company, his employers.
I spend best part of ten years working with Derek and his wife, learning the MLM business. I was not building the structure, nor selling products. I did however use the products my self and for my business eventually. One thing that was not to my liking was that we were under pressure to sell. I made some £12.00 commission at one time, and then £61.00 sometime later. Eventually I left. Even though I was away from the industry, I knew deep down that one day I will return. I did, return in to the industry back in 2012, this time with a totally different concept of MLM. Throughout these years I studied and studied the system, different marketing plans, met many successful MLM professionals. I was finally done with fear as well, which was the result of my personal and spiritual growth. I also constantly believed in the power of MLM and somehow always knew that one day I will make a success out of this model of business. Today, I am not as yet where I want to be, but I am positioned in such a way that my success will come much sooner now than ever before. I am achieving this by working with others toward their success. I am coaching others to learn the three vital benefits of the alternative business model, which are: system,opportunity,personal development. I am going to explain now, why these three elements are so important.
SYSTEM - The model and the system of multilevel marketing is probably the most powerful leverage to becoming financially free within a very short space of time. Subject to the company you engage with and its marketing system, the speed of becoming financially free is absolutely down to you. I know people who have made it within days, weeks and months. Truthfully, only about 3% of people is very successful, but it does not mean that you will not be within that 3%. Everything depends on YOU, how you will approach such an opportunity. The marketing plan is the core of your success, so look for a business that will give you true money making opportunities, longevity and the facilities to pass the business over to your beneficiaries later on. Two most powerful marketing systems that I came across is the binary system and five per level system.
OPPORTUNITIES - The MLM business is a low investment type of business. You can start it for Nothing, or for a nominal sum of money.Say 0-£200 to start with. For that you will most likely receive some products, company website and lots of free training. Everything is done for you, all you have to do is learn and spread the word, build a structure, internationally, without even traveling there.And with the help of the internet, this can be done very quickly.
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT - There is a saying : " Money seldom overtake the value and power of personal development". It is so. Today, what ever we do, requires constant update of our knowledge.Therefore, without self improvement we are not able to sustain our growth personally or in our career. In the alternative business it is compulsory to grow, as without it, your business will lag behind. Similarly it is in the conventional business model. Therefore, attending seminars, training courses, reading books, listening to audio books and watching videos is so important.
