Did you notice, how business and work has changed over the last twenty years or so? Do you have the time to notice these changes? being in business on your own is not often that easy to notice even the simplest things going round you.
Take for instance the receptionist`s position in a company. Years ago it was merely a task of answering calls and connecting those to the right person. Today, she would be promoted to the position of an Office Manager. She is the first contact to our customers. Her personality is very important as it is she, who makes the first impression on a potential client. Further more, her duties today, entail many other tasks , as the way business is done today, her work demands have changed also. It is important that she takes part in the staff meetings and be aware of everything that is going on.
Your job, as a Business Owner is to know a lot about what goes on everywhere else, and be an expert on what you do. Thus in order to succeed you must maintain your business development, you must keep in touch with the current events as well as develop and maintain your network of contact and you networking.
Thus the team work is one of the most successful ways to keep your self at the top. The old methods of running a business are now only seen in the old-line companies, many of whom are now fighting for survival, or have gone altogether. Today, men and women want a high degree of participation and involvement in their work.They want the opportunity to discuss and understand clearly , what they are doing and why they are doing it. They want to play part in achieving goals that have participated in setting.
Being a team player is not an option these days. It is mandatory today. If you want to achieve anything of substance, you will need the help and cooperation of many people. Like your networking group. Your main objective is to structure everything you in such a way that, as you give your help and cooperation to others, they in turn will want to help you to achieve your goals too.
They main reason for failure of a team work is that people do not make their full contribution, maybe due to the lack of clarity. Team building and team development studies demonstrate the importance of everyone being clear about the team`s goals, and take the ownership of the whole team as well.
As a team player you need to be absolutely clear about what is expected of you.If for any reason you are not sure, ask until you have no doubt. Then , get busy, do exactly what is expected of you, and do it to the best of your ability.
It is worth remembering that in your interactions with the team, your role is to be supportive and helpful. Your role is not to challenge and , criticise, or argue, but to promote positive approach and look for solutions and for opportunities to help others in making their maximum contribution as well. When you seat in o a team meeting, you are on the stage. Everyone is watching you. The best team players offer suggestions on how things can be done better. The best team members will always offer to help other people to improve some of the aspects of their contributions. The focus on collaboration and cooperation is seen by everyone and will mark you as a person to be liked and respected. Volunteer for additional assignments. Focus on high priority tasks, and finish what you start on time. Do excellent work.
